Conquer Insomnia: Connect with God’s Spirit
Do you suffer from insomnia? Have you ever stayed awake and tossed and turned all night? If you are unable to sleep at night, no matter what you do, you are under a spiritual attack.
To conquer insomnia, we must understand God’s unique plan. He created us in His image and formed us in three parts: body, soul and spirit, (I Thessalonians 5:23). Our body and our soul are at rest, but our spirits are awake. “God neither slumbers or sleeps,” (Psalm 129:4) since we are connected to His Spirit, our spirits are awake with His. God uses the night as an opportune time to speak with us. “God does speak—now one way, now another—though no one perceives it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, he speaks in their ears and gives warnings, to turn them from wrongdoing and to keep them from pride,” Job 33:14-17.
God intended our nights to be a sacred time to connect with His Spirit and to be at peace. When sleeplessness prevails, it’s the enemy’s attack. His desire is to disrupt connection with God. He accomplishes his goal by interrupting our sleep with a tormenting spirit of insomnia.
Spiritual Roots to Insomnia
There are many factors that give the enemy legal right to contribute to a sleepless night, but the main reason is a spirit of fear. It can manifest as afraid of (someone or something) as likely to be unpleasant, worrisome, or threatening. Fear is the opposite of faith and is a tormenting spirit. Before going to sleep, prepare your heart to agree with faith, not fear. Whatever you agree with, you give your power to that choice, and it will affect your sleep. God has given us the authority to overcome insomnia.
How to Overcome Insomnia
- Ask the Lord for sweet, sound sleep. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus,” Philippians 4:6-7.
- Recognize disturbing thoughts. Where there is a concern, give it to God. ″Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you,” 1 Peter 5:7.
- Decree with authority. Lay hands on your head and say “in the name of Jesus, I cast out the spirit of fear, worry, anxiety, and stress. I call into existence the peace of God over my life. I command every muscle in my body to relax in the name of Jesus. “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you,” Luke 10:19.
- Thank God for peaceful sleep. “In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8 “When you lie down, you will not be afraid, when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.,” Proverbs 3:24.
Prayer for Freedom from Insomnia
Father, in the name of Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit, I repent and renounce the spirit of fear, stress and anxiety in my life. I take responsibility and ask for your forgiveness. I thank you for the authority you’ve give me in Jesus Name. I bind and break the spirit of fear, anxiety, stress, worry, fear of tomorrow, fear of man, fear of (list fears you may have: __________________) and command these spirits to go out of me, and go to the dry places, in Jesus Name. Father, I choose to connect with Your Spirit and receive peace, and sound sleep, in Jesus’ Name. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Amen.
